Add a WhatsApp number
Connect a WhatsApp number with Facebook through Meta's Embedded Signup, then register it with a two-step PIN.
Every WhatsApp number in Mokanata belongs to your WhatsApp Business account (WABA). You add a number with Connect with Facebook: Meta's own sign-up window walks you through your business portfolio, the business account and the number, then a two-step PIN registers the number for the Cloud API.
Coming soon
WhatsApp is built, and goes live once Mokanata's Meta app is approved by Meta. Until then the dialog says WhatsApp isn't available yet and no number can be added.
- Who can use it: Owners and admins, and any role with the Connect and disconnect permission. Without it, Add and Add another number to this WABA are disabled and Add a phone number is left out of the menu.
- Before you start: Admin access to your business portfolio in Meta Business Manager, and the phone number. A new number has to be able to receive a text or a call from Meta with a code. About 3 minutes.
Open Add a WhatsApp number
Go to WhatsApp Business
On the Setup page, select WhatsApp in the Connected accounts list. Before your first number, you can also choose WhatsApp in Connect a channel.
Choose Add a phone number
Click ⋯ in the WhatsApp Business header, then Add a phone number. You can also click Add next to the number tabs, or Add another number to this WABA at the bottom of WhatsApp's numbers in the list.

Connect the number with Facebook
Connect with Facebook
Step 1 of 2, Connect WhatsApp with Facebook. Click Connect with Facebook. Facebook opens in a new window.
Pick the business account and number
In Facebook's window, pick your business portfolio and WhatsApp Business account, then the number, or add a new one: Meta texts or calls it with a code. When you finish, the window closes and Mokanata says Checking access with Meta….
If you close the window before it finishes, the step says "Sign-up was closed before it finished." Nothing was connected; click Try again when you're ready.
Register it with a two-step PIN
Step 2 of 2, Register the number. The number is connected already, but it reads Pending until Meta registers it, and agents can't send from it until then. Choose 6 digits in Two-step PIN: it becomes the number's two-step PIN in WhatsApp. Click Register number.
A message confirms the number is registered. Agents can send and receive on it straight away, or, while Meta reviews a new display name (usually 1 to 2 business days), once the name is approved.
Finish later
Click Finish later on the PIN step to leave the number Pending. Its page then shows Finish registering with a Choose a PIN button, which opens the same step. Mokanata passes the PIN to Meta and doesn't keep it, so store it where your team can find it.
Coming soon
Numbers that stay on the WhatsApp Business app on a phone can't connect yet: Facebook's window says so, and you start again with a number for the Cloud API. See Keep using the WhatsApp Business app. Moving a number from another provider, or connecting a business account with a system user token you paste, aren't available either.
Troubleshooting
WhatsApp goes live once Mokanata's Meta app is approved. Nothing can be connected until then.
Finish sign-up in the window that's already open, or close it to start again.
Start again and pick a number, or add a new one, in Facebook's window.
Start again and pick a number for the Cloud API.
The number already has a two-step PIN. Enter the PIN set in WhatsApp Manager. After too many tries, wait a few minutes before trying again.
